In 2010 two sea turtles (Caretta caretta) came to live in our bay. This probably has to do with the fact that we go fishing every day and when we come back and clean the nets there is always quite a bit of food that gets thrown back into the water. The turtles know the sound of the boat engine and are mostly around and waiting when the boat comes back.
They are not very shy but we recommend that swimmers don't try to touch them
as they are not pets and have large beaks. If they pinch you it could leave a nasty bruise.
The turtles don't stay in the bay in the winter (maybe because we don't fish there in the winter?) but they came back in the spring 2011. |
